Bring it on. Sadly I think snow is less and less likely, maybe mid Jan.

It would be cool for my kids to experience something like the blizzard of 93 and 96. The ice storms of those same years.

This year will have major snowfall. The Delaware river will have large ice sheets.

Axios is trash and on top of that this is just a article to remind you everything is global warming.

Also this article contradicts itself every other paragraph on its global warming claims and assumptions of what global warming is.

** If you want people to buy into and support change to protect the planets environments people like this and the way they try to present everything as global warming by conveniently having it mean everything is how nobody cares.

  • average winter temperature in Philly has risen about 5 degrees in the last 50 years
  • this causes snow to happen later in the season and less frequently
  • but when it does happen, the warmer temperatures mean the air is able to hold more moisture, which can have the effect of making the total snowfall go up
  • otherwise, winters are getting more rainy and less snowy

grew up in the midwest and moved here from chicago. I knew there would be a change in climate but the differences are mind-boggling. the thought of less snow almost makes me sad

Are you expressing incredulity at the relevance of climate change to snowfall, which is... part of the climate?

It does not seem so unreasonable that, "everything," or at least a lot of things would relate to climate change somehow. The effects of climate are persistent, deep and pervasive. Things like how cold it will be or how much rain will fall, which are very basic and important climactic considerations, are pretty important.

Also a Midwest transplant - it is wild to me how much people here complain about winter weather. That said, Philly just doesn’t have the infrastructure to deal with even small amounts of snow (<6”) in a timely manner.

I don't think we'll ever see much snow on Philadelphia. Not like 1996 snow storm. That was legendary lol

Those back to back storms were nuts. I lived on a super tiny side street that didn't get plowed for over a week. Had to pay the neighborhood kids to help shovel us out. It sounds like I'm bitching, but I actually remember it very fondly.

I’m a Southern transplant and am overall not a fan of cold weather, but that first snowfall of the year always makes me feel like a kid again because we so rarely got big snowstorms when I was growing up. I’m 30 years old but it’s such a joy to go out and just PLAY. Build a snowman, have a snowball fight, go sledding, make snow angels. And then go inside, strip off the cold, wet clothes, take a hot bath, and sit on the couch with hot cocoa and a good book.

I consider any snow storm where the snow total is at my hip level, a big storm. 2016 was 3 ft, 1996 was 4 ft. Both really bad blizzards. 2016 was especially a bitch bc of the weight of the snow. My big beast craftsman was struggling

I still remember being in grade school when it hit and struggle to get home and having to hold on to my neighbor because the wind was so strong and I couldn't make the last four houses to mine and after the street was clear, the pile being level with my Gran's head and walking on it. It was magical.

This city can't handle snow and the already ridiculous situation with parking cones and spot saving goes into a hyper-aggressive, way more violent mode in the snow. Somehow drivers in the city get from bad to even worse when even the slightest dusting of snow happens.

Homeowners don't shovel the sidewalks, and the pretty white of snow is quickly turned grey and black from cars and trash.

While I like the snow, I never want to see it ever again in the city.

I’ve lived in Chester County for 54 years, I can definitely attest that the climate has changed. The primary way is that we now get much more frequent intense rain storms. To the point where I had to install new drainage on my property that was unnecessary even two decades ago.
