I still think Matt Cord is the coolest guy alive. He came to a middle school career day we had and I was starstruck. He complimented my Sum 41 shirt! He played dope music and I thought “The Work Release Program” was the coolest fucking name for a radio program that started during PM rush hour.

I called up when he got picked up by a new station (I forget - later evening IIRC - WMMR maybe?) just to say how nice it was to hear him back on the air. He did some segment where he’d play deep cuts off of popular albums and he played Under My Umbrella from Morning View for me. Super cool interaction!

I literally cried when they went off the air. Thankfully, they went to internet radio in the bunker. Their massive catalog exposed me to a lot of great music.

Wow that's an old one. I have the black and white logo stickers I got from them the day I moved into Drexel in 1998.

I was bummed when the format changed, then thrilled when it basically came back as Y-Rock on WXPN HD2. But that didn't last.

This was THE soundtrack of my whole adolescent life! This is giving Preston Marilyn & Steve era, if not earlier. I won a call in impersonation contest when I was 15 and lied about my age and the unavailability of my ID to redeem my prize… good old days ha

I was listening live as the station changed over and thought it was a glitch or a new after hours hip hop programming they tried, alas…

I followed Preston & Steve to MMR but one day I just couldn’t take Steve’s constant interrupting everyone & soundboarding over people and it felt like the convos were more boring and the schtick felt rehearsed. But I’ll always have a soft spot for the old days!

I kept y100 on my presents for probably a year, and would check back every couple weeks to see if it was just a mistake and they had gone back to the programming I grew up with. I also tried following the crew to MMR but the music selection wasn’t my thing and Steve got really annoying.

My claim to fame was poking Preston in the head with a giant foam finger while he was presenting a prize at a wings lacrosse game on the Jumbotron. I didn’t make the screen but my giant foam finger did. Also got a fantastic “are you fucking kidding me” look from Preston.

I went to the 2004 Feztival witb Cypress Hill taking the third to last sport, and Beasties closing. Forget who played in between but think it was Hoobastank and they were booed off stage. Cypress Hill was awesome, and Beastie Boys are one of my all time greatest shows. Wish MCA was still around so I could take my son to see them.

I got a free Power 99 sticker circa 1990. I put it on the crossbar on my Huffy BMX and my dad made me take it off, which I didn’t understand at the time.

I recently found a plastic cup in the depths of my cupboard that has Y100 branding on one side and Rita's on the other. And also a DRE pin in a box of chatchkies.

I was pretty stoked for the trip down nostalgia lane!

Former part time\weekend DJ at Y100 (and Q102) here. It was like a dream when I got the on air gig at Y100- I was a huge fan of WDRE and then Y100, but got my first radio job at Q102. Took a chance by sending a little air check to Y100, when they called me to come in and told me I got the job, I almost flipped out. Was a great job- worked the over night shift a few nights a week (the 3am all request hour!) and led right into the PMS morning show. Definitely a highlight of my somewhat short but fun radio career!

I moved back to the area in 2019 after twenty years away and was bummed to find Q102 and 93.7 WSTW are the only stations from my '90s childhood left. Y100 was one of my favorites. SO much good music on there back in the day.

Who else remembers Star 104.5?

obligatory "I met him once and he was a dickhead story"

In his defense he was shitfaced and this was probably 15+ years ago at this point, but he was super trashed at a bar I worked at (that will remain unnamed). He was there with a woman who I assumed to be his significant other, and about an hour in the two of them got into a heated verbal argument and causing a giant scene. She stormed out of the bar, and Cord was so shitfaced he just sat at the barstool refusing to leave and clearly way too intoxicated.

We eventually got staff to escort him out but he started blocking the front door and refused to leave. He pulled the "do you know who I am" card and told us he'd shit on us on the radio when he's on-air next. He even pushed one of the security guys out of the door then stormed off.

In our establishment's defense, we did NOT overserve him he had 1 or 2 drinks at the bar, it seems as if he was hopping around and was pretty drunk we he had arrived.

I still don't hold it against the dude, we've all had shitty nights.

I remember sitting by a boombox in my basement with my brothers with a blank cassette tape loaded up, waiting for the next great song to be played on Y100 so we quickly could hit "Record" to build out our mixtape.

I had them set as my alarm to wake up every morning. The morning of the switchover my alarm went off and started blaring some hiphop music. I was sooooo confused and disoriented, thought I was still in a dream for a few moments

I wish there was some way to get people to pay attention to it. We as a group should be able to do more to benefit our local stations. The ones that are actual local stations with DJs and events and not a pre-programmed playlist.

I have an old Y100 sticker too. Still proudly displayed on a corkboard with a bunch of other shit from the 90s/ 2000s. The Y100 festival shows were awesome! So many amazing bands!
