I’m looking online at hardwood floor refinishing costs and I wonder if it matches reality. This site https://www.thisoldhouse.com/flooring/reviews/cost-to-refinish-hardwood-floors says a house of my size - 1000 sq feet - would be $2000-$4000. Is this realistic for those who’ve had this done recently in the Pittsburgh region? Seems a bit low to me.

Thanks!

I did this before the pandemic. It was about 5.50 a sqft including a flight of stairs. Also the lead time was like 3 months

July of last year - 1400 sq ft - sanding, repair and stain was $3000. Took the crew about 3 days

Just did about 900 sqft of oak floors in January. Depends on the condition and how much repair/patching they need to do. I needed about 10% replacement, so the high end of that range sounds about right. Well worth it and looks fabulous, though.

1000sq ft. including stairs done by Peak Floors about a year ago, $3500. Would recommend.

In Feb 2022 we had 841 sq ft on two stories for 4.74/foot, so just shy of $4k. Stair treads, not risers or sides, were another $1k.

We used Peak Floors. I think that's who we could actually get a hold of and surrendered the shopping around at that point. (Insert the usual "getting someone on the phone is often the most challenging part" spiel.)

Nearly gut reno of my entire main living floor (living room, dining room, kitchen, breakfast nook and 1/2 bath). Everything was removed when the floor work was done, including the old cabinets and all bath fixtures. We used Nova Flooring. Came out amazing. Would recommend them in a heartbeat!

We had about 1600 ft.² of hardwoods refinished in January 2021 and it cost around $10,000. That included stairs.
