You can also order Kate’s Butter from Maine at Whole Foods. I grew up in Maine and it’s my favorite butter. They treat their cows really well. You can taste the difference between their butter and mass produced stuff.

Penn Mac has a couple different kinds.

Grew up in NH, close to the Maine border. My mom brings me 2-3 boxes of Kate’s every time I see her.

Current favorite butter is the Rodolphe Le Meunier’s Beurre de Baratte that Harvie’s is stocking.

If you leave the city and go towards pretty much any of the various Amish communities they'll sell rolls of homemade butter. Always delicious

I like some of the European butters too. Icelandic (Smjör), Finnish, even some of the Irish kinds. I like to find them at Whole Foods. I know they’re widely available and not so niche, but they’re a treat for me

I don’t know if it helps, but I think a good way to really impress him would be to look up some compound butter recipes and make him some. It’s not difficult and really livens up dishes.

I see a lot of people recommending Amish butter, just a heads up (I live in very rural Butler County now and horse drawn buggies pass my house daily), unless you go to a farm market or to their home to buy butter from the lady of the house, most of that rolled butter you see in stores is not real Amish butter, it's just rolled Amish style. And you have to be careful in Amish tourist traps like over in Lancaster, some Amish people are not so honest and will buy bulk butter from Sam's Club, bring it home and reform it with rustic looking packaging.

I have been enjoying a new Zealand butter that's on sale at whole foods. I'd stay away from the Minerva, I find it to be too sweet.

ETA Lewis Road Creamery is the NZ butter, it's excellent. If you can get Insigny St. Mere do so

Came here to say the Squirrel Hill Market. Isigny Ste. Mere roll butter, Rodolphe Le Munier, Plugra, Presidente, a brand from England I can’t recall, and some damn fine Beaver Meadows courtesy of Marburger Dairy.

I find the goat butter at Whole Foods to be a wonderful variety.

Be cautious of "Amish" butter. Much of it seems to be regular butter to me, and almost none of it is grass fed (which I can readily tell).

You’ve already gotten good tips. As someone who gifted her husband an assortment of butters from Whole Foods and the Norpro butter keeper for Valentine’s Day, I just had to show my appreciation for the topic of butter gifting 😊

I cold smoke cheese every year for my “man” gifts with friends. Last few years I would cold smoke bars of chocolate and then let it rest for a few weeks in butcher paper in the fridge. Then crush it up and make chocolate chip cookies with it. While good, the smoke flavor was inconsistent.

This year I decided to smoke sticks of butter and make cookies with that. I froze sticks of butter and then cold smoked them for 2 hours with apple wood. They just spent a week resting in butcher paper in the fridge. I vacuum sealed them last night and will use the butter to make cookies.

Wow I always just buy plain unsalted. Looks like I need to explore the world of butter… yum!
