Sorry if this is a dumb post but I’m looking for a theater that offers a really good cinematic experience for watching the new avatar. If someone knows of a particular theater for IMAX 3d, great audio, etc. experience you’re recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Only thing we really have is AMC Dolby at the waterfront

I find that row F is the bestbat the AMC Dolby

I'm going away for Christmas so I'll be seeing it in Cinemark 3d xd with dbox seats which are apparently full motion seats :)

AMC Waterfront has the only IMAX theater in the area, other than the one in the Science Center, but that one doesn't show first-run movies anymore.

Thought waterworks down 28 had a full imax as well?

Waterworks has nothing like Imax. You might be thinking of Pittsburgh Mills down 28, which used to have an Imax screen (and a much larger one than Waterfront). However, they strangely got rid of it with the new ownership (and with it the only reason to ever go out there).

That’s precisely where I was thinking, thanks! Only reason I ever headed out there, good to know it’s gone.

Dolby is better by far for 3d. The screen is smaller but the tech for 3d projection is 10 times better with Dolby.

That’s where I brought my family for the first Avatar movie. Now they want to see this one.

Cinemark 3D XD is pretty solid. Not IMAX but still solid quality

Agree. Also, my favorite is the McCandless Crossing location. Clean, comfortable, and very well maintained.

This. While AMC Waterfront’s IMAX and Dolby screens might have slightly better picture/audio than Cinemark XD, the rooms they are in weren’t really designed for screens that size and have weird dimensions. The IMAX still has old school cramped seating and the Dolby has weird half recliners without enough room between aisles. AFAIK Cinemark Monroeville still has normal seating, but the recliners at Robinson and Mccandles are tits.

Definitely AMC Waterfront. I prefer Dolby Digital for the comfier seats and Atmos sound system, but IMAX is also nice with the bigger screen.

Not sure if they still show big releases there, but the theatre at the Carnegie Science center across from Heinz has a huge screen, don’t know what class it’s in though

Always go AMC Dolby, it is a game changer for any giant film like Avatar. Movie 🍿 was insane
