These companies make so much money that the cost of fines is so inconsequential, it doesn’t change anything about the way they operate. US Steel has been operating in this manner for decades. They’ve been fined so many times and it makes no difference. The fines either need to be an amount that actually affects their bottom line or they should be shut down until they can operate within the parameters that do not harm public health.
