For those who do not know the neighborhood is named after Winfield Scott who is most famous for overseeing the Trail of Tears. The Scott's Addition Neighborhood Assoc's website used to have his name in their "About" but has recently switched it to: "The neighborhood’s name comes from its history." It's almost like they realized it probably wasn't a good thing that RVA's bros were bowling and hanging out in a neighborhood named after a genocidal racist.
If the removal of 60,000 Indigenous Americans from their ancestral homes and their forced removal, like cattle, across our stolen nation wasn't enough to ruffle your feathers; he also was a leader in the Black Hawk Wars, where he outmanned and slaughtered hundreds of Sauks, Meskwakis, and Kickapoos.
I know renaming a neighborhood isn't easy, especially one that has so much active investment in it's growth but we are talking about one of the worst if not the worst perpetrator of ethnic cleaning in the history of our nation.
