That said, we really should address this part as a Teachable Moment™ for you and others:

I’m glad this completely-preventable case of potential hypothermia didn’t result in an ER visit or worse and I hope it was a lesson learned on how to better prepare next time.

Devil's advocate here, your girlfriend being underdressed is not the venues problem. They don't owe you anything. They let people in at midnight. Yall weren't dressed properly and couldn't take the wait in the cold.

Jeez man… Feel like you’re being overly tough on them. We don’t know how underdressed she was or if they had umbrellas, but it’s 100% normal and expected for people to dress down when going to packed clubs that don’t have coat checks. Standing in a normal line for 15 min like any of us would expect at a show might have been fine, but it sounds like the club advertised an earlier show, or at least didn’t make it clear what time it was starting, then didn’t let people in til midnight. Exactly! There’s no coat checks at these places so I make a choice to go without one knowing that I’ll be cold for a few minutes in line. Did the same thing Saturday night for a show. That’s not that happened here at all.

Devil's advocate's devil's advocate here, but if they were properly dressed for a 30 minute line and not for a 5 hour line, that really is the venue's problem. It's not like these places have lockers and changing rooms for people to change from 5 layers of bundled up to fun in the club outfits. I just googled this show and it says the first act starts at 10 pm, so you'd expect doors to open between 8 PM and 9 PM, not 12 AM.

Promoters/venues in this particular sector of the music industry are generally trash. I’m not talking about genre of music, I’m talking about these low level dickheads whose product is 90% hyped up social media posts convincing people to give them their money for the party of the year when they happen to book a well known artist on a clear cash grab. Logistics and crowd experience were last on anyone involved’s list of shit to care about, including Trippie. He had no business doing that bullshit show, but at the end of the day, he got paid and the fans got screwed, and neither he nor the promoters give a shit. That’s just how it works with these scumbags.

I'm not victim blaming anyone. It's not OPs fault that the promoter and venue failed to admit people in a timely manner and get them out of the elements fast enough or even at a normal speed. It's pretty clear that myself and others agree that sucks.

What I did do, however, is let OP and others—who may be in this position in the future—know that they have their own personal responsibilities to how they dress in inclement weather. Anyone with a functional nervous system knows that yesterday was cold and rainy pretty much all day. Look out a window, stick a hand out of the door, or maybe look at a weather report. So, in that respect, being underdressed knowing that there will be a period of time one will be outdoors is probably not a "great decision."

If you—the proverbial you and not individual you—go to the beach for an all-day outdoor music festival and didn't pack sunscreen or bring an umbrella or tent and can't find any shade to stand under, yeah, you're gonna get a pretty bad sunburn and/or heat stroke. Both of those things are typically preventable with the right planning.

There are plenty of stories of people getting seriously ill, injured, or dying from being exposed to the elements and not having appropriate clothing.

You'll be a great dad someday if you're not already - but in this case, they didn't pay for an outdoor experience. They paid for an indoor experience with the implied promise of a reasonable line, which they dressed for. Nobody brings coats and umbrellas to clubs like that when its just sprinkling, because it sucks to have to deal with them inside when it's 90deg and packed with people dancing, and they're likely to get ruined/lost/stolen anyway. OP did exactly what club-going adults have been doing for decades. It's an international standard.
