I was under the impression that they're essentially the same thing, no? Just Chat GPT was castrated to be able to deal with conversations only

ChatGPT has more under the hood, it's a finetuned version of 3.5 and it was trained on Text and data before 2021. It was using reinforcement learning with human feedback.
