2023 has been wild, and it seems like every week AI is getting more and more attention. Now more than ever, I feel like the singularity is almost upon us. I previously never believed in a hard takeoff, as I assumed society would move slowly integrating AI, even an AGI. Now, it feels like society is rapidly waking up to the capabilities (good and bad) that AI will bring. By the time we have true AGI (which I expect sometime in the next 2-5 years), it seems like AI will be so heavily integrated into society that ASI will come very soon after.

I for one cannot imagine the world in 2030. I am at a loss of what to do until the singularity comes, knowing that careers (and work in general) are soon to be a thing of the past. I am in the middle of pursuing a masters in data science, and while I enjoy it, I would not be doing it if it weren't for monetary motives. It seems like working hard and spending so much time advancing my skills in data science/analytics will be futile. For that reason, I am thinking about dropping out of the program.

Anyway else have similar thoughts?
