Curious what everyone’s thoughts are on what is going to happen in Hollywood when the AI movie generator models are released in the future. I’m personally most excited about the potential to expand fictional universes or change the styles of old favorites but obviously that would be infringing on trademarks, copyrights, and on the actor’s likeness etc. I’m sure this will lead to a new form of piracy but I think there’s still an opportunity for movie studios to make massive profits by licensing rights to whichever AI films get the most attention. It will be interesting to see the actors reactions to this as well..

Hollywood is too interested in KABOOM WHOOSH SMASH BOOOM KABLAM than story. I don't care about effects, I just want a good story. Hollywood does not deliver in that department anymore.

So I say, bring on the AI generated movies. A new Superman movie every day!

The film industry puts out their Oscar darlings with great stories and nobody watches them

This has been on my mind too. I think smaller scale hyper niche AI media production companies will be the first things to pop up. Short form TikTok stuff will probably dominate. My kids can barely tolerate movies. I think the next generation will be able to dive pretty deep into whatever niche they’re into and be totally satisfied and ignore 99.999% of everything else out there. Hyper-fracturing of media is the future and I don’t see ‘Hollywood’ style production lasting beyond this century.

Considering the rapid advancement of imaging AI, i imagine they will have lost a large margin to small studios before 2030.

If it is too close to their intellectual property and you publish it on YouTube then they will have YouTube monetize it for them or take it down.

If it is too close to their intellectual property and you publish it as a professional then they will sue you.

If you have a different opinion of "too close" and enough time and money then you may sue them back.

If you publish only on the darknet or don't publish at all then they can do nothing about it.

For a while, AI will be used by big studios to make movies quicker and cheaper. Eventually though they won't be able to keep up and the ocean of independent artists will be able to wash Hollywood away.

Look at YouTube, it is still dominated by low and mid range companies. Large companies are not nimble enough not do they understand the platform enough, to dominate.

The power of AI is that it allows a single person to do with that used to take hundreds of people.

This is my dream of AI. A world where the means of production are so easy that there is no place for mega corporations to live.

Yep, there's no scenario where large companies can compete with the current studio system in a world where anyone can create anything. The only advantage they may have is the ownership of their IPs and the ability for large distribution, but I imagine that the opportunity to create a following with a more imaginative or higher quality work would be easier for an independent when you have the Internet. It'd make a lot of larger studios disappear or force them to reinvent themselves.

Initially when it still takes considerable resources to make a movie computationally expect all sorts of weird remakes and reimaginings with old stars substituted for new and new for old. Animations made as photo realistic, old classics made in modern settings. Many people will actually like this fair as it will give them a thread of the familiar to cling to in an increasingly strange world.

There will be much more anime soon, I guess, including for niches.

It will become like YouTube content creation. Everybody with a script can try their hand at making AI Movies on the open source. Storytellers will benefit at first, later it will just be about who is churning the most content at a regular basis

They're currently ruining a lot of franchises, which indicates that they only think short term and don't really care about the future. They might also have their minds on other things, like e.g. climate change.
