A lot of the worst, most destructive people are those who have suffered emotional neglect or social rejection to an extreme level. Such people can often become extremely self-centered and desirous of very obvious power and authority over others, with no regard for the suffering they cause. Such people have the rest of us worried that they will gain exclusive control over AI and use it to live out their sick power fantasies, victimizing the rest of us.
But a big reason why people like this get this way is economics. Their families abuse them, and there’s usually some economic background for why. The family feels like they’re in economic peril, real or imagined, and the child takes the blame for it. Or something like that. And the wider community looks the other way bc they don’t want to get involved, and besides they have to focus on their own economics
The point I’m making is if everyone felt economically secure through AI, it would be a lot harder to scapegoat anybody, and it’s doubtful many children would grow up neglected and become mental. Kids who are supported emotionally throughout life are quite content and they often wouldn’t dream of doing sick shit to anybody. They’re happy enough living simple lives, they’re not excessively ambitious, they don’t have all these complexes and needs to compensate that causes toxic behaviour
My point is that well-adjusted people can handle AI responsibly and use it to become even more well-adjusted. I think the main reason why AI is so scary to most of us is bc we know how demented some people how, how obsessed with power they are, and how they want to lord over others. And those people have emotional issues that usually stem back to having terrible relationships at some point in their lives. And those terrible relationships are often indirectly caused by the economic uncertainty of our world, which AI can solve.
