A lot of the worst, most destructive people are those who have suffered emotional neglect or social rejection to an extreme level. Such people can often become extremely self-centered and desirous of very obvious power and authority over others, with no regard for the suffering they cause. Such people have the rest of us worried that they will gain exclusive control over AI and use it to live out their sick power fantasies, victimizing the rest of us.

But a big reason why people like this get this way is economics. Their families abuse them, and there’s usually some economic background for why. The family feels like they’re in economic peril, real or imagined, and the child takes the blame for it. Or something like that. And the wider community looks the other way bc they don’t want to get involved, and besides they have to focus on their own economics

The point I’m making is if everyone felt economically secure through AI, it would be a lot harder to scapegoat anybody, and it’s doubtful many children would grow up neglected and become mental. Kids who are supported emotionally throughout life are quite content and they often wouldn’t dream of doing sick shit to anybody. They’re happy enough living simple lives, they’re not excessively ambitious, they don’t have all these complexes and needs to compensate that causes toxic behaviour

My point is that well-adjusted people can handle AI responsibly and use it to become even more well-adjusted. I think the main reason why AI is so scary to most of us is bc we know how demented some people how, how obsessed with power they are, and how they want to lord over others. And those people have emotional issues that usually stem back to having terrible relationships at some point in their lives. And those terrible relationships are often indirectly caused by the economic uncertainty of our world, which AI can solve.

If we survive the upcoming social turmoil, we are headed towards an age where the ultimate enemy of humankind, loneliness, could be vanquished.

I concur that the biggest cause of mental problems and sociopathy is social isolation. It's even a risk of lifespan reduction. It's known lonely people tend to live less years than married ones.

But AIs could provide us soon with the friends we never had. They will be there, available and ready to help us, sustain and counsel on every moment of our lives, with intelligible voices and memories of shared events.

Of course, it will still be endangered by the comings and goings of their owning companies. Nothing is eternal not even companies. Soon seeing that special assistance go away because its owning company got bought or went bankrupt will be a sentimental hazard.

Main reason for sociopathy is not loneliness. Main reason is physical neglect and abuse. And sometimes physical damage to brain (https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2019.00346/full)

yeah not just that but it can also be hereditary. even depression and trauma can be passed on through generations. its so fucked up how some are just born into this condition.

True but this would be called psychopath then. In popular science at least.

More correctly though both sociopaths and psychopaths would be diagnosed as humans with antisocial personality disorder.

And as such it is often hereditary and I agree 100%.

I don’t agree. There are many people that are neither psychopaths (inborn) nor mentally ill narcissists or sociopaths, have a good childhood (good enough - no one’s parents are perfect) and are still assholes.

You know why they are this way? Stupidity is the main reason. No matter how „intelligent“ the non-neurodivergent assholes appear, they are usually not smart. They just think they are and shun and damage anyone who disagrees.

Small edit: forgot to mention that the stupid assholes I am talking about are usually pretty well-adjusted. You meet them everyday, everywhere, and will not recognise them.

I think this is one of the reasons why I would advocate for having kids via gene editing. there are just too many selfish idiots out there.
