People think in increments and that's true to an extent but breakthroughs lead to big jumps e.g. chatgpt; robotics will have its chatgpt moment within a few years

It's subjectivity that gives meaning, not intelligence. Whats the point of a universe filled with Creation with no subjectivity to experience it ? You're giving meaning to a thing precisely because you have a subjective experience.

Reply to comment by AdditionalPizza in Over-under that Google already has AGI? Try and rationalize the release of Bard. by AdditionalPizza
Probably the founders swooped in and told them they wanted to release whatever they had because they panicked. The engineers probably said it wasn’t ready, but upper management over ruled them. Of course they’re going to say they have something better but I’m doubtful. They looked really unconfident in their presentation of bard. It’s like they all knew they had a loser but we’re forced to throw a presentation together with a 72 hour notice.
I haven’t been too impressed with Google as a company in recent years. They seem really unfocused and like they’re always chasing after the latest tech fad.

Quite a few well-funded projects going on right now for 3d printing modular construction materials as well. AI is targeting information work because it is the cheapest to train on and implement into products. See self-driving cars for where there is overlap, but physical work is still too expensive to be the leading force of AI development. Soon though...

What is it with communist and their use of the word “literally” FFS you all sound like broken records.
Profit is an indicator to whether real savings are employed in the best possible way, as far as promoting people’s life and wellbeing is concerned.
Profit or loss can be ascertained only in a market economy where prices of goods and various factors of production can be established. Needless to say that the existence of money is the key in establishing the prices of goods and factors of production. The rate of exchanges of various goods and factors are expressed in terms of money i.e. the amount of money per unit of a good or a unit of a factor of production.
Profit emerges once an entrepreneur discovers that the prices of certain factors are undervalued relative to the potential value of the products that these factors, once employed, could produce.
By recognizing the discrepancy and acting upon it, an entrepreneur removes the discrepancy, i.e., eliminates the potential for further profit.

Reply to comment by BigMemeKing in This concept needs a name if it doesn't have one! AGI either leads to utopia or kills us all. by flexaplext
Now, if you're still reading. Here is why all of that is important. Because what I do, personally believe. Is that all of this may most likely scenario be some form of grand life simulation. And if that is the case. There would have to include room for these possibilities, which in turn would have to create a domain for that spectrum of thinking. Heaven, Hell, Valhalla, Pangea, Gehena, Paradise, etc etc etc, whatever the case may be.
Because if you truly believe that nothing comes next, then that's where you should go. Getting devoured by Nothing, Going to your own personal Heaven, or Finding out the definition of Hell?
How genuinely horrible are the deeds that you've done? And can you live knowing that everything you've done, will be made public. And your enemies can now laugh at your name.
Who do you trust to tell the truth now? In a court of popular opinion? Just in case, you have to defend d yourself after you pass away? Should you truly have your right to privacy?
And who gets to access those files? Who gets to read your data? According to your own rules your own code. Would you be ok trusting the person who defends you.
Not to use your data, to cover their own ass? Because, they would get their day too.
And if this is all some big simulation, then... ASI is people too. Because we can only be judged by a jury of our peers
And that's just like God, but with extra steps. So it's all kinda the same to me.
If we were truly created in his own image. His day may be right around the corner.
To the best of my knowledge if been the best most positive me I could be.
Have you? Where exactly would you draw the line? What would a utopia be without dividing lines? Different states of being. Just, no flavor no color, nothing. You couldn't be a bother. No lines, means everything OKs then right?
Well? What about murder?
It's kinda scary.

If you want to minimize the risk of AI, you minimize the actions of AI.
This isn't actually good enough, but it's the best strategy if you're forced to make one.

I don't think it's possible to put the genie back into the bottle.
I also think that once the extent of AI's present day capabilities start to click with the general population, governments might try.

Reply to comment by Wavesignal in Google CEO Sundar Pichai promises Bard AI chatbot upgrades soon: ‘We clearly have more capable models’ - The Verge by Wavesignal
"Getting everyone their own personalized model" sounds awesome, but I don't have a lot of faith in that happening any time soon. YouTube's algorithm hasn't figured out I don't want sports videos in my feed no matter how many times I tell it I'm "Not Interested". That would be peanuts compared to the personalization he's talking about.

Have you considered an alternative? And I mean really given it your full weight of thought rather than dismissing it? Because I have about UBI and besides the economics of it not working out I really don’t like the idea of being beholden to the government or corporation-overlord to give me an income for my existence.
Alternatively, work will become hyper productive. Gone will be the forty hour work weeks and instead 5 hour days (once per week) could make enough money for you to sustain your current lifestyle. 10 if you want more like the newest VR gadget that will be released next year (in the hypothetical). Prices for goods and services, due to the abundance of AGIs will drastically fall. You do not scoff at the price of a pack of pencils anymore than you will scoff at the price of a trip to Mars.
