I get what you're saying but I wouldn't consider it speculation to discount the value of a English and Philosophy degree as many news sources are already using AI to write articles, I'm not saying the quality of them is good but it probably will be soon enough. I think speculation is kind of necessary and even if I get it wrong my other options would have been equally worthless.
But yeah, no one knows. It's a very uncertain world.

I do not want speculate nor wish others to because I see the tech as-is right now. I’m am however anticipating AGI fundamentally changing how the world works. What that will look like no one can say. Saying UBI is THE solution is naive of the world we are headed towards. Things are going to break soon and quickly, I hope. It’s up to us to guide others to build a better world once the current system collapses.
Profits are already used in the reward functions of NN. It will be interesting when the reward function is switched to real-world money (like Satoshis via the LN).

Let's say an AI diagnosed you with cancer (hopefully no). Would you take chemo or surgery without consulting a human doctor? And if the doctor disagrees, who would you trust?

Wow, sure it was hard to read past 3 sentences in the tweet. Sam talks about a "democratic" process of alignment, where people can participate

That is what i'm thinking, people are always going to need medical and mental support and at least for the foreseeable future, they're not going to want a GP or psychiatrist who is an AI, not that that is even possible yet.
The whole military thing for me is a no though. I'm UK based, not American and although I recognise the need for military forces they are generally wielded to create more suffering in the name of greed and I'd rather try to dedicate my life to helping people (as long as I'm not destitute myself lol). I do understand there are roles within the military that are not directly shooting people etc. but I just wouldn't want to uphold a system that I perceive to have so many flaws, but I guess by paying taxes (not that I do that yet as I'm a student currently) I'll be upholding that system either way.

You should game the system, it is called politics.
There is no moral difference in things like rewriting the taxs code in favor of very few people compared to seeking government intervention for job protection.
It makes no difference if you get the advantage of paying no/little taxes on assets or maintaining income from a job.
Those higher up the social ladder always employ the government to protect their riches. So, the best way to maintain a job is to bring in new regulation. Some reason can certainly be made up.

Corporations will quickly flip on prioritizing greed once they realize AI will rapidly outpace our capabilities in all aspects, and we will become insignificant competition to a superior race.

>Describe the world today in 1980. You cannot predict Reddit or Twitter. You cannot make the claims you’re making with any substantial certainty. Stop acting as if you know.
Both in this thread and the other thread you seem to not to want to extrapolate based on presently given information. That's like the best thing about being sentient too. Or at least you don't want me to extrapolate since you gave me a r/futurology tier take on working.
You are acting like I'm describing hypothetical technology. It's already here. Look through the subreddit for direct sources. You seem to only be working off of ChatGPT-like text models. Even that can be quite autonomous with plug ins. You're like those people who don't know ai is starting to create functional code.
For as much as you love markets, which I also do, you seem to not acknowledge the profit motive and how human neutral it is.
---
On a sidenote, if I had access to books in the 1980s I might've predicted social media. A lot of singulitarians did. But really this is more like predicting social media in 2001 or 2007 depending how which sites you'd like to count. But I still think the analogy is flawed, as the tech is here.

No, they weren't. The Luddites weren't trying to socialize the means of production or fight for union rights. They were destroying machines because they were too small-minded to think of anything else. And if they had their way, we never would have seen all the benefits industrialization brought.
Oppose unjust economic systems, but technology is just a tool. Gooder tools are more gooder.

Is be pretty comfortable now tbh. Actually, I’d be more comfortable with a AI general practitioner than a human one. It’s going to be more competent than the doctors i can afford.
When it comes to surgery, I’d prefer not to be in the alpha or beta waves though.

If they delay it, they may be the new google of the next gen. And maybe another country with money and resources in Asia comes out with the best IA of the next gen. And they will have the power to develop the course of the planet. The thing is that maybe AI is the only chance we have to save ourselves from extintion, climate change etc.

Reply to comment by MassiveWasabi in Do you think AI will fundamentally change the education system by barbariell
In the 'good' outcome every kid gets a personal tutor that can help them learn in a way that suits them, at a pace that suits them and engages them in the learning process. Imagine if every subject was taught by a teacher that focused just on you and was someone you really got along with.
In the 'bad' outcome it will be used as an excuse to cut educational budgets as people no longer need to learn.
I hope for one but kinda expect the other.
