It's so nice to see the tide finally starting to turn on this. It was obviously going to happen this year after the massive criticism they got for banning them last year. This along with the IOC giving a lot of support to the Russian athletes is a really good sign that most of the world is moving on from the stupid decision to discriminate against athletes because of the country they're from.

Impact for Ukrainian citizens: my house, my children, my friends and family, my life,... .

Impact for Russian athletes: my sports career, noooo

I think the Russian athletes will survive their 'harsh' predicament... as long as they're not drafted ofcourse.

Nations leaders rule with the consent of their people. Unless these players have actively spoken out against Putin or made moves to distance themselves such as leaving the country, we can assume they support his military actions.

Outrageous. Every aspect of both societies must stand together against this war, and allowing small luxuries to return to them is directly allowing Putin’s tyranny to continue.

Aye I won’t be watching it this year then

And before anyone gives it “it’s not the players fault” argument

Nobody is saying it is, the punishment is aimed at the state

See apartheid South Africa as an example

They probably assumed that a situation like this would never happen, considering that it has never happened in the past. I don't remember any American athletes having to go through this.
