That's what made me question it
But on the other hand, people having fights dressed as mascots is really fucking funny, so maybe they couldn't help themselves

In high school, our mascots were generally wrestlers.
They’d often wrestle with the other teams’ mascots in a playful way under the the goal posts during one of the breaks each game. They stopped doing it after one of the other teams’ mascots wasn’t in on it and turns out she wasn’t into it or capable of fighting back.

Think this might be my favourite of the genre

I think there is an element of it being a real fight that the people surrounding thought was just dumb, as two mascotts hitting each other is. Its odd for a) apposing teams mascotts to interact, especially if its a rivalry like this, and b) for it to happen while a play is going on in the background. This stuff is usually for breaks in play, as if it was a bit, they would want the crowd to watch, play it up on camera, but a play going on means only a couple people would notice.

It's not during a play though. Easily 5+ seconds between end of the "fight" (they are wearing boxing gloves) and when the ball could be snapped.

It's definitely fake. Mascots do this all the time, it's entertainment.
