The Council today gave its final approval to the common charger directive. This means that in 2024, a USB-C port will become mandatory for a whole range of electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablets, and headphones.

Enlighten us, which "different outlets" would that be?

The only countries where you might need an adapter for CEE 7/4 plugs are Denmark and Italy, Euro plugs won't even need an adapter. If you meant to say Europe rather than EU, then Switzerland (also Euro plug compatible) and the British Isles are the only countries where you actually need an adapter.

/EDIT: My bad, I forgot Malta and Cyprus are using the British BS 1363.

On one hand, I am a big fan of standardising the ports. It means that sometime in the future, I could be commuting or go on a road trip with a single cable in the car and charge many devices. However, I am surprised to see game consoles on the list of affected devices. Can you power an Xbox over USB-C in theory?
