Which is surprising since I feel the Best Actress winner usually has the better performance, at least in the last 10 years. The Best actor award has been a lot less competitive even.

Highly subjective. Prominent female roles are also high on Oscar bait type emotion.

I mean yes that is the reason, which is why I think the female categories are more competitive.
