With the prices for groceries that may be easier than you realize.
Had to pay $10 for half a gallon of eggnog yesterday.

Where? Which grocery store?? That’s wild.
Knife2MeetYouToo t1_iy8qn8l wrote
Walmart. Cheapest I could find.

Well damn. I always jack a glass or two whenever I visit my sister. Now I feel bad. 😬 Unbelievable.
SgtBaxter t1_iy92aye wrote
I paid $4.50 for a half gallon at Wegmans, so yeah I don't actually believe it.
Unless they were talking the Walker Evans with booze in it.
1PantSuit2Nation t1_iy95qtl wrote
I mean does the state matter? I could believe something at Walmart in like New York would cost more than the same thing at Walmart in some other cheaper fill in the blank state.
But I’m gonna google what this Walker Evans is though. 🤔
SgtBaxter t1_iy9gh43 wrote
My bad, it's Evan Williams:
https://evanwilliams.com/eggnog
If you order online and sign up for the emails you get $5 off, making it $5.49.
Q_Fandango t1_iy9usj6 wrote
Sorry so you called this man a liar for saying he paid $10 for eggnog at the store… and then just said that your brand at non-discounted price is $10.49

Mentoman72 t1_iyaphk9 wrote
Its a hit for showtime. They won't cancel it unless people lose interest.
That said, I've heard there's a 3-5 season story planned and while I could probably see three working I really don't know about five seasons.

Right now, Showtime is basically "The Yellowjackets Channel"
Which is fine. I think they're going to fully become a brand tab on Paramount+ and nothing else within the next couple years. Same with MTV, honestly. They've already made both moves and noises that those two brands are probably going to just become part of Paramount+ entirely very soon.
lord_pizzabird t1_iy8syws wrote
They sort of have done this already, but as a premium expansion within Paramount.
I think the issue is that Showtime has a long history of standing on it's own, with it's own revenue model. It's also Paramounts prestige machine. I think there's concerns over disrupting what the do too much, given how good they are at it.

lord_pizzabird t1_iya5g7m wrote
I don't think you understand what Prestige means. It's not about ratings or spectacle, but farming industry awards to insinuate a premium brand.
Should point out as a sidenote, that Showtime's boxing promotions bring in pretty big numbers, often measuring in the hundreds of millions of dollars in PPV buys. (The record was $410 million for Mayweather vs Pacquiao that was a joint promotion with HBO and Showtime).
Now, all that being said they've obviously not reached the same levels of prestige as something like HBO, but that's irrelevant. Regardless of how well they perform, the entire point of showtime is that it's CBS's Premium network and longtime competitor to HBO.
aw-un t1_iybmtzf wrote
Prestige is usually associated with awards…. And of all the shows you listed, Yellowjackets is the one with nominations

If studios are tightening their belts I think the more traditonal sitcom jumps off the page as a solution. They're cheaper and faster. Look at the buzz a show like Abbott Elementary has created and I would have to guess it's made for a fraction of what some of the other Outstanding Comedy Series nominees were made for.
I think streaming is starting to figure out sitcoms too when they realized it's ok for some shows to just be comedies and not everything needed to be a comedy drama. Reboot on Hulu is awesome, Sex Lives of College Girls is super underrated, and I would almso guarantee with Girls5Eva moving to Netflix it's going to blow up.
Personally, I hope we see them move some of these shows back to 22 episode seasons, realizing it's more cost effective to produce 22 episodes of a popular and cheaper sitcom than to try and make 8 episodes of 4 shows that are never gonna last.
Woznyakxm9103 t1_iy8z3cv wrote
They won’t resort to sitcoms, they’ll resort to reality tv shows.
VirinR t1_iy8h8tt wrote
You can add Minx, Mythic Quest, Trying, Breeders, Only Murders in the Building and the iCarly revival to that list. All of these shows are doing well and are renewed for new seasons while not all shows have been given the big spotlight like Abbott but they’re all doing quite well.
Wistful_HERBz t1_iy8qiol wrote

I really loved it. It’s got a fun cast of characters who get up to some fun/hilarious hijinx and the overarching struggle between creating media that will have a positive social impact vs. something that will be profitable is very relevant.

I don't know how much Showtime was involved in production, but it was moved to P+ for its first run, so it can't have done very good numbers for the cable channel.

”There will be belt tightening,” said Winograde, referring to the global cost-of-living crisis that will no doubt impact TV over the coming years. “Nobody wants to reduce the amount of content they are doing so hopefully people will find creative ways.”
That is something at least. Not like Showtime were high volume to begin with. You are lucky if they have one or two shows airing weekly as it is!

TV content spend has been astronomical for the last ten years or so thanks to streaming. This is ultimately just a correction back to a more sane level as many of those streaming services aren’t making money, and some could start to fold in the next few years.
