I already have lol. There's the "Gilded Lilys" pilot from ABC trying to make an American Downton Abbey, the "Big Thunder" pilot also from ABC based off the Disney park ride, and "Drew" which was CBS' attempt to make a Nancy Drew show a few years before the CW made theirs.

I wonder if they have the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend pilot that was shot for Showtime and had Michael MacDonald (MADTV - Stewie) as Daryl.

I absolutely love Pete Gardner, so I am happy he replaced Michael, but I'd still love to see that pilot.

A quick google shows it was Shonda Rhimes does Downton in the US starring Captain Jack Harkness.

Julian Fellowes wasn't involved, so it wasn't the actual Downton prequel that morphed into The Gilded Age.

I tried doing a YouTube series a number of years back where we reviewed unaired TV pilots. Shot 4 episodes, but only released 2. Really wish I kept up with it, this day would have been fantastic.

New Car Smell Pilot:

We spray everything with Ozium-D. Let it de-ionize, vacuum the spray out with a de-ionizing machine. Hit it with high pressure compressed air, then wet-dry vac it to extract the remaining liquids. We top it off with one of our seven air fresheners - in your case, I would recommend the Jasmine, or the Potpourri.

me: Wow, what kind of guy would the (well established car wash)* attendant assume would take Jasmine or Potpourri? Is he a single, thin, neat man? Is he indifferent to his friends lives? Is he childlike with a particular affection towards Superman? Is he a.. funny guy? I'm picking up such a vibe just from the first moment here

During the mid 2000s, I remember pilot episodes would end up on torrent sites. Usually around the beginning of summer. I recall watching Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The leaked version was slightly different.

Eeeeh, it's been almost a century. Time flies too. Or even better actually.

Anyways, I did hope we'd get the never-aired GoT pilot but I guess HBO really want to keep that one in the dark.

PlayedUOonBaja t1_j1zgpry wrote

That first one, 1% on HBO, is interesting. It's from the same year Sons of Anarchy premiered and the shows look very similar with a bunch of actors that would later appear on Sons. I wonder which show inspired the other? Just browsing through it I can see why they dropped it. seems like just 3 or 4 scenes of the bikers sitting around eating in various places. Also Sons definitely had better casting for the main crew. These guys just look too much like actors playing a part. Kurt was smart to hire a few real bikers to fill out his cast.

Also no "Open" pilot which is a major bummer. Who the fuck casts Anna Torv on a raunchy artsy HBO show about Sex and Lesbians and then cancels it before airing the pilot!?!

I wait for the day when we can see the unadulterated disaster of the GoT original pilot. Y'know, the one where it was too stupid dark to see anything (a harbinger of things to come) and Dany and Catelyn were played by Tamzin Merchant and Jennifer Ehle respectively.

7

Quiggold t1_j1zltyp wrote

I wonder if we'll ever get the infamous original GoT pilot

HRJafael OP t1_j1zxptp wrote

I watched "Drew" last night. It deviates greatly from the books and uses the character names. Still, it was an interesting watch and it did give off the vibe of "The Nancy Drew Files" which was a books series in the 1980s that was darker and grittier than the classic books. Not sure about the NYC detective angle but I guess they didn't want to do another small town mystery series yet again (not that the NYC choice was any better).

This was passed over by CBS who decided to pick up "Doubt" instead, which was another pilot written by the same people who wrote "Drew". That ended up being cancelled so it's up in the air whether or not "Drew" would have done better or not.

That show did get a season pickup but was shelved. It's very morbid but I still want to know if that show was really shelved because of the co-creator's death or if there were other reasons. I'm not sure how morale on the set would've been if they were forced to keep shooting so maybe that really is why. Pretty tragic story as the guy was pretty well-liked in the sitcom industry.

God I would bet no, I think pretty much everyone who worked on it agreed it was ass bad, like the original cut of Star Wars. Maybe someday deep in a physical release but I doubt anyone who worked on it is clamoring for it to see the light of day.

The documentary filmmaker Michael Moore was involved in the development of a series in the 90s called Better Days, which took place in a midwestern town where their auto plant went under. I believe it was to star Jim Belushi and Chris Elliot? He talked about it once on his podcast. It sounded interesting and seemed set to have the social commentary that Moore was known for. Which was a problem. He said it was set to air in the fall, CBS I believe was going to pick it up, the audience scores were really good. Then top advertisers threatened to pull their advertising since it wasn't going to be a corporate friendly show and CBS deep-sixed it. I'd always wanted to see that pilot.

Pity, just checked and it's not on there.

Same with the Bionic woman remake where the sister was a deaf girl, that was 2007.

I think I only recall this because the lead was a UK soap actress Michelle Ryan who got a US break and then the show flopped.

“The Coven” turned out to be a bad Charmed knock off. Has some good actors in it, including Illyana Douglass. But the show is very CW paint by numbers. Stuff like this makes me think of all the hard working people in Hollywood who get so excited when they land a pilot.

“The Way” is another witchcraft-centered pilot with some pretty big names. Jane Alexander, Peter Strauss, Andrew McCarthy, all slumming it in some corporate intrigue nighttime soap opera where rival corporations are owned by different families of actual witches. Weird concept. Felt very ABC but actually appears to be a Paramount/Sony coproduction? Not sure where the fad came from that every show needed to be about witches.

“Life On The Hill”: not too bad for a sitcom. Surprised it didn’t get picked up (though hopefully they would have dumped the voiceover).

Wendy Malick plays a Nancy Pelosi like figure on Capitol Hill, and Mark Moses from Desperate Housewives is her foil from across the aisle. Plot is focused mostly on the misadventures of the younger subordinates who try to keep things working in her office. Think Spin City meats HIMYM. Also features Michelle Trachtenberg of Buffy fame. Humor could have been just a touch more cynical. Fun potential for additional humorous caricatures of lobbyists, senators, etc. as the show went on.
