After the lackluster Season 2 and the meh Season 3... This show has been labeled as a one season wonder for me.

One was so good, two was meh, I didn’t even know there was a third.

I don’t know why they didn’t just do an anthology based on the family from the first one. Would have been interesting

Season 1 was so good that I think it was just impossible to follow. Feel the same way about Westworld.

At least with True Detective being an anthology series it hopefully has a lesser chance of pointlessness than Westworld had by its season 4. Mainly though I have faith that Jodie Foster takes on strong projects and delivers great performances. I'd pay to see her play a Rust Cohle-type character.

Just to point out to those unaware - Nic Pizzolatto (the main writer of seasons 1, 2 and 3) isn't involved with season 4 (he's only credited as an exec producer). This may or may not be a good thing.

I liked season two also. I thought it was good. It just shouldn't have been a True Detective season in my opinion.

Season 1 set the tone for a serial killer vibe, and season 2 went in a completely different direction. It was more of a Mafia/Gangster drama.

If season 2 was a standalone HBO Max series I think people would have liked it a lot more.

I liked season 3 a lot. My fiancé even says it’s better than season 1

Yeah that's fair. I think I like it just because I find that kind of Los Angeles underbelly interesting. Same with Jackie Brown, Repo Man, Chinatown. LA is just so spread out and weird as someone who's lived in more urban, packed in cities. Just find it fascinating.

When is this out. I will clear my calendar to binge (if it’s like season 1)

In my opinion, season 2 is a good show, but it's hurt by people binging season 1 and rolling right into it.

Season 1 was truly special and has a wildly different tone, setting, and set of characters. Going into 2 off the high of 1, especially expecting more of the same, is a recipe for disappointment.
