The best example of this was Cybil Shepherd in CYBILL. After Season 1 got big ratings and Christine Baranski won an Emmy, Cybill Shepherd was mad so she demanded the funnier lines for herself, and worse, she used the show to promote her godawful singing career. Suddenly, we got Cybill singing Jazz standards, horribly by the way, and what was a funny sitcom became a cringefest. So the ratings fell hard and CYBILL got cancelled on Season 3. Alan Ball then wrote a damning character based on Cybill on his show, SIX FEET UNDER, played by Catherine O'Hara.
