Wait, it was an ongoing series? Never read the book or watched the show, but a quick search on Wikipedia has it listed as a miniseries. Plus the book itself isn't terribly long either, so having it be an ongoing series would likely become repetitive at best unless it was an anthology or something.

The article says they only adapted a third of the book. Absolute madness this was not a limited series to begin with. I’ll score it off my watchlist now it has been cancelled without a conclusion.
