Cats mark their scent by rubbing their face on the object they want to mark as their own.

Some members of the feline family do spray to mark their territory. I would be homeless if that's what my cat did on a daily basis LOL

Domestic cats spray too, just FYI. They only stop when altered. Source: I've had cats my entire life and they'd spray before being fixed, but couldn't after, though they will try! 🤣🤣

They have scent glands at the corners of their mouths. That's why they rub the side of their face on stuff. As far as I can tell only cats can smell it.
