Mark Bowden, in writing his excellent book “The Finish: The Killing of Osama bin Laden,” interviewed a number of Seal Team Six members, including Bissonnette.
Bissonnette declined, and instead wrote his own book on the raid, suspiciously calling himself ‘Mark Owen’ — most likely a means to great confusion between the two books.
Bowden’s book came out first, but he issued a second edition to explain his interactions with Bissonnette and update his account of the raid based on what was written in ‘No Easy Day’

We don't want operation details about how we conduct kill ops to be known because then the enemy can anticipate our tactics and kill all our guys. Info like what kind of vehicles we use, how we approach certain targets, how many people are generally on an op, the type of gear they are using, ect.
We're not supposed to conduct assassinations. Since 1976, every U.S. president has upheld Ford's prohibition on assassinations, BUT both Democrat and Republican administrations have been weaseling around this ever since.

It's a matter of professionalism and operational security when a highly selective and entrusted organization has members who keep running their mouths to the media (news and social) and selling their endorsements to make a buck.

NATO intercepted a satellite phone call from Gaddafi which pinpointed his fleeing in a convoy. NATO aircraft and a US predator drone, piloted remotely from the US, fired on Gaddafi's convoy crippling it so that he could be taken out by Libyans. Everyone talking shit about "Mark Owen" should listen to his interview with Shawn Ryan. Heaps of other folks, usually officers / Generals / Admirals writing books left right and center without getting clearance to do so and no dramas.

I actually just finished a book about Seal Team Six and how it's become ruled not by the rules of warfare but by a protect your own mentality. Bissonnette and Robert O'Neil both wrote books about the raid (O'Neil has claimed to be the one who fired the kill shot on OBL even though pretty much everyone involved says he didn't) but O'Neil waited until he was out of the Navy before he wrote his. Bissonnette was still active duty when he wrote his.
I just finished a book about Team Six and one of the things that came out was that Bissonnette and Robert O'Neil were competing to see who would fire the kill shot on OBL. Neither operator did (an unnamed shooter nicknamed 'Red' did). And the other Admirals and Generals waited until after they retired before writing their books. Bissonnette was still active duty when he wrote his.

There is an argument to be made that the government should never have anything secret from the people. It's the same people who think that Assange, Manning, and Snowden are doing the right thing. I agree with that view.
