TIL that Barq's Root Beer was first created by Edward Barq in Biloxi, Miss, in 1897. In 1934, Barq and a former employee, who moved to New Orleans, agreed to each distribute their own version of the root beer, with the New Orleans version having a red label and the Biloxi version having a blue one.

TIL Sheriff Jordan, the leader of the posse that killed Bonnie & Clyde, attempted to keep the stolen car in which they were ambushed and shot to death. The car's legal owner sued the Sheriff for possession of the car then drove it to Shreveport, still covered with blood & human tissue.

TIL workers dismantling the wrecked MV Primrose off of North Sentinel Island were confronted by the isolated Sentinelese, but defused the situation by giving them bananas and letting them on board to acquire scrap metal. Workers were visited by the Sentinelese 2-3 times a month for 18 months.

TIL Martin Luther King was born Michael King Jr. However, his father, a pastor at Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, traveled to Germany and became inspired by the Protestant Reformation leader Martin Luther. As a result, King Sr. changed his own name as well as that of his five year old son.

TIL The largest diamond ever found was the Cullinan Diamond, which was discovered in South Africa in 1905. It weighed 3,106.75 carats (over 1.2 pounds) and was cut into nine separate stones, including the Great Star of Africa, which is the largest clear-cut diamond in the world at 530.2 carats.
