I usually go to the dump transfer station but it will be closed due to weather.

I worry about the homeless population. People camping out or sleeping in cars. I know there are warming shelters in Burlington and Rutland, and maybe in Brattleboro. A lot more are needed. If a church is not opening their doors on a sub-zero night for those who need it, what are they even doing? Let people sleep on the pews, get a couple of volunteers to stay awake overnight.

Youth sports, much like capitalism, doesn’t stop for anything. Think we’ll be alright though.

Make sure you've got a blanket per person and everyone in the car has a good jacket, hat, gloves, and scarf.

I won't be going anywhere because I don't have to.

Probably going to have an extra cup of coffee and maybe an extra log in the wood stove. Normally I’d be at Smuggs for some laps, but with the wind and temps, nah. Plenty of season left.

Its actually pretty severe as far as VT weather goes. Its not really going to be one of those sunny still below zero days we are used to. Its going to be more insane winds and ridiculously low wind chill factors that can give you frostbite within minutes. School is already closed for most of the state. Its not really weather to fuck around in.

Yeah this is one of the real concerns about tomorrow night. Despite the fact a lot of people are saying wind chill isnt real and this is a nothing burger. The wind doesn't necessarily care. When its really windy and cold it will kill you faster than just cold and there are plenty of people without shelter.

It does look like the state is trying to do something this weekend to help. I do urge people without heat or shelter to call 211.

Work in social services and made some calls today.

Many of the warming shelters are going to be open beyond usual capacity this weekend. Some are breaking out extra cots to put in places not usually designated bedrooms. The list of official shelters can be found here. Transportation is also available.

Some schools have announced that they’re also opening up as emergency warming shelters, but I haven’t been able to identify a full list.

Cold weather housing is in effect. This means that if someone calls 211 without adequate housing, there may be options for housing in motels paid for through emergency funds (as available).

It’s not nearly enough, but it is something.

Anyone else annoyed by the phrase "low wind chill"? Seems like it should be a high wind chill. This is the stuff that keeps me up at night.
