My grandmother has dementia and needs round the clock care. I'm not involved with that side of the family much, just hear about it from my mom. I have my own issues with my grandmother but she deserves better than what she's getting and it's frustrating hearing about the situation.

Suggestions for cheap caregivers for her? Or programs that can help? She just needs supervision, meals, diaper changing/help washing, and general help with the "thing". She gets confused with random things like her phone, remote, computer, etc so likes to call people about "the thing" not working. She does have some meds like for her blood pressure and other such issues but from my research an LNA/RN isnt required for it.

Housing is so difficult if you rented a room to a caregiver they might give you a deal. As for caregivers you get what you pay for. Cheap and caregiver doesn’t exist around here. Expect to pay at least 25 hr maybe more if they have more qualifications. It’s a very old population in Vermont so caregivers are very few and far between. Good luck though.

If the caregiver is on 24 shifts, a room is required, not a perk. Caregivers don’t generally work more than 3 24 hour shifts a week as we tend to have LIVES outside of our jobs. The way it works is there are 2 and sometimes 3 that rotate out and use the same room for night sleeping shift.

Folks that think they can rent out a room and require 24/7 care of gramma are going to get a potential nightmare squatter/crackhead/thief to deal with, then still have to pay for competent care.

Folks that think there are ‘cheap caregivers’ get what they pay for.

That's partly why her current care is so crap. The people taking care of her are... Not the best. They're relatives but okay with making around $3.15 an hour for 5x 24hr shifts weekly, they've recently thrown a fit because they finally realized 4 months in their hourly wage... They're getting EXACTLY what they pay for. My aunt's excuse,"Room and board is included that's a great deal!". They're all too concerned with maintaining their inheritance to actually pay up. It's a disgusting situation.

No I've never used it before, I'm a bit out of my element asking for help with this kind of thing 😅 Thank you I'll look into that
