Definitely did not see anyone when I drove by yesterday at around 5:45. I can say, though, that very few people actually understand how to use a zipper merge as everyone just moved to the right lane incredibly early and I must have passed 50 cars up to the merging point.

Nobody ever sees anyone working there because they’re in the bottom of a hole that was 80 feet deep. Last week there was a crane with an 80’ boom that was barely sticking out of the hole. They are working on filling it back in 24 hours per day, six days per week.

Interestingly enough, merging to the right lane too early actually slows traffic down since it increases the length of the right hand queue. Zipper merge is the preferred method.
