Have you checked your breaker box?

I have the set up where they text when power is restored or when it shuts off. There were repeated events during the last storm where GMP announced power restored to my address with the last sentence being, “If your power is still out, reply OUT.” I also go to the GMP app on my phone to report the outage.

I think it is weird that every time I report my outage as ‘still out’ the app resets the duration of the outage to the most recent report. Makes customer service metrics look good?

Same problem here, I’ve had to remind them twice that my power line got torn off my house and is lying in the snow. The neighborhood has power, my neighbor and I aren’t hooked up.

If you live in the sticks you likely know more than they do. Keep reporting you don't have power. They are doing their best to get as many people back online as fast as possible, but they need to know who's out to do that.

I get you the problem is they seem to think I have power and I’ve had to explain a few times that the power line is down. Really hoping it’s fixed by tonight, don’t want to pay for another night at a hotel.

I had a fight with gmp about this actually. As I was building my house the meter to the old house spiked enough to burn out 2 smart meters. The first one they replaced and said nothing, the second on they replaced and said you need a new meter box. I said, let me see and called and electrician who said it would be a few thousand as the wires to the house were not up to current code and would need to be replaces as well. I politely declined and said, a new meter with a 100 amp fuse is a couple hundred and I’ll pay to have it installed. GMP hemmed and hawed at which point I said, it is either that or I opt out of a smart meter and you can send someone here to read the thing manually. The line men there for the service cutoff didn’t believe me but when they called the office their tune quickly changed when the office said it was absolutely within customers rights to request a dumb meter. It cost 600 for the new box, breaker and installation and the meters stopped frying.

The moral of the story is, even when they are keeping the power on, at the end of the day they are a for profit business and every decision they make is to ultimately make money. Don’t be bullied by them.

If they say it is on, and you have checked you breaker, keep reporting it as out.

I mean, at least you don’t have WEC. They tried saying they restored power to all but 300 customers this morning at 3am, than it slowly climbed back up to the actual 3800 they still had out (it’s gone down now to closer to 3k.) It now says I’ve only been out of power since 3:16am this morning instead of 2:00am Friday. WEC is the fucking devil, we get charged the highest rates in the state and their line workers are payed the least in the state leading to being consistently understaffed. My service has original poles and hasn’t been cut in years (2 miles of easement feeding four customers) I don’t generally bitch about it, as I have generators and many friends who are lineman (I used to be as well) but Jesus Christ WEC needs to get their shit together. Because of their general shittyness their crews will be out for two days longer than GMP, and I’ll be shocked if I get power before Wednesday.

I don’t know why you’re being an asshole about it, I told them I’d pay if I needed to. It’s not like I was blaming the power company for 70 mph winds or my line being down, I was just hoping they would fix it.
