My husband and I got tickets for the White House egg roll! Sign ups required us to include a child, so we planned to bring my niece. Unfortunately she’s not available during the lottery time we won. Could we go without her? Just to walk around and observe? I couldn’t find anything on the tickets that said we would be turned away, but wanted to see if anyone had any additional info.

EDIT: I’m still trying to invite another (child) family member, y’all. But the tickets are non-transferable, so, to my knowledge, there isn’t an option to gift them/our spot.

Decline the tickets and let some other family bring their kid. You’re taking a spot/opportunity away from a child.

Forget these holier than thou types telling you to forfeit your tickets. Instead, email the communications team and ask them if it’s ok to attend without a child. They usually respond right away and will get you the answer you need.

It’s really a event for kids. You might as well go with other adults to the American Girl Cafe.

And yet we lost the lottery, and we have a real kid.

Why do you say the tickets are not transferable? I thought people swapped/gave them away regularly?

With this logic, they should only allow one chaperone along with a child or else every double chaperone with a child has one person in the group taking the spot of a child

A bunch of Frank Grimes folks in here mad that even though it is clearly an event for Children, OPBeat Their Brains Out and scored tickets without a kid. In all seriousness, I’ve been to this event once (with a child) and the eventual payoff is not at all worth the extreme awkwardness of standing in the long security lines, filled exclusively with families, without a kid.

I don’t know what to tell you. The museum is family friendly, that doesn’t mean it’s family oriented. This is family oriented, like story time at the library or a craft day at the zoo. They don’t want adults without kids to show up for a family-oriented event.

There’s really not another way to explain this. It’s pretty clear cut.
