Two cars, each with different license plates front and back, pulled up around 6:10pm at the Florida Avenue CVS in Adams Morgan. Two blocks from the MPD Third District station. You walk out, look down Seaton Street and see police cars. About 8 teenagers in masks ran in haphazardly, stole Tide, toilet paper, and other products, and walked out to stuff their cars with goods. Nervous but in no great rush, either. Nobody said anything, myself certainly not because of the weapons question and these kids piss-poor judgment. Store manager is on the phone looking helpless, employees come out and talk about how the cars are clearly stolen, etc. as they both go through the red light and speed east down U Street.

Please, everyone, whatever you make of this, vote in your local elections. Don't stand by as temporary, transient, etc. and ride the caboose re these issues.

Edit: Here's what your mayor, city council members, and ANC reps can influence, beyond criminal code and police staffing, in your chosen direction. But only if you vote. Crime prevention, education policies, employment policies, employment opportunities, mental health and substance use policies (kids or kids of parents with serious untreated issues = not pretty), housing policies, various social & financial assistance policies, various policies affecting neighborhood food/goods deserts, focusing media and public attention this way or that, on this issue or that, etc. etc. (Do I look like an independent yet? Cheers!) And even if certain elected leaders can't directly influence everything, they can highlight issues and refocus attention for those above them with more direct levers of control or more access to power, this is PR/optics/protest/pressure/etc. So go vote in your local elections, all of them, there's way more than criminal code and police staffing hanging in the balance. You have extremely little control beyond this. Or sit in your grandma's basement with your drawers on, cookie crumbs on your stomach, typing on your keyboard!
