Amazing how quickly all these other countries—from Peru to Germany to the Maldives—are able to act against leaders (or leader-aligned) who are bad or criminal actors. And they’re doing it decisively and with teeth, even.

Yameen was totally in China's pocket - it was good to see him lose and even better now to see him sentenced. We'll see if he ever pays up and actually spends that much time, if any, in prison. The corrupting evidence of China's BRI is evident for all to see. No country comes out ahead dealing with China.

There is no way a country as small as maldives has solved post presidential prison terms... but the big ole us has not... fake news.

As a Peruvian, your example is horrible. To speak about Peru like it's not riddled with corruption that overtakes corruption every x amount of years, is straight up silly. You've fallen into the same narrative people back home have, every time this stupid shit happens again.

This is bad news for his brother Whaddaya Yameen’s political aspirations.
