I don't know if there is an official comment from Taiwan; but they have meetings more than once a month and President Tsai Ing-wen has asked for Japan's security assistance.

Yonaguni is not a disputed island. It is about 65 miles east of Taiwan, a little closer than the Chinese mainland.

It would probably be used in a joint-operation to defend Taiwan. The locals in Yonaguni have mixed feelings about this: they don't want to be caught up in a war; but they are tired of Chinese aggression.

A bit of confusion and butt puckering because it'll piss off the folks across the strait.

Also a lot of old folks probably snapping back to Japanese speaking skills.
