People have been moving to Mass for decades for work. Literally everyone on my parents street are transplants from all over the country. The Boston accent is fading because we are an employment center and draw people from all over. Typically minorities and immigrants didn’t have the Boston accent anyways. So your juvenile sanctuary state theory is just that.

I never pulled someone over for that. Most guys I know wouldn’t either. Maybe if you were doing 60 in the left lane and holding up traffic.

I’m literally wearing flip flops today. If you are sticking to Burlington some Timberland would suffice. Even sneakers would work as long as it isn’t snowing or raining.

Met Ted at a Fundraiser in the early 90’s in Holyoke. He was pretty jovial and talkative. Had a good hour plus conversation with him and a couple buddies of mine. Was actually more down to earth and friendly than I thought.

My oldest works in downtown Boston and his wife works in Watertown. After almost a year of getting outbid on any house the put an offer on they went and bought in Wilbraham. It’s a long drive every day but he has flexibility to go in early and leave early. His wife goes into work for 6:45 and out around 2:30 so she rarely deals with traffic. Luckily they have my sister in town to help out with getting the kids on and off the school bus. And stay with them till their mom gets home.
Is it the ideal location for a downtown commute, absolutely not. But he makes it work, and he can WFH if the weather is bad. They were able to buy a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom house on 3/4 of acre in a town with good schools. The neighborhood is great and their kids have tons of friends and never lack for things to do.
I don’t think this would work for everyone, but I do think it’s something to consider. Maybe even a little closer to Worcester would work. Maybe Sturbridge, Auburn, Charlton could work. Like I said it’s not ideal, but could be an option.

It’s not , it’s the Berkshires. It’s in the far western end of the state. But it’s not the area referred to as Western Mass. it’s the area referred to as The Berkshires.

Nah, Berkshires are their own thing. Western Mass is Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden Counties.

I’ve been in this area for 50 years. Absolutely no one considers Huntington the Berkshires. They consider it the Hilltowns. Most people associate the Berkshires with Lee, Lenox , Stockbridge, Great Barrington, Williamsburg, Pittsfield, North Adams.
Hence it’s own distinct area called the Berkshires.

Hampden , Hampshire and Franklin counties are western Mass. Berkshire County is the Berkshires, Not considered Western Mass but it’s own area. Worcester County is Central mass. Everything east of that is eastern mass.

Springfield and Worcester are actually closer miles wise than Springfield and Pittsfield.

Been to Fresh Acres a lot. Would love a MB In the area too. A Hannafords would be great as well. I have a feeling Big Y plays a role in this somewhat.

Western Mass has a much higher population density, much bigger urban core, just bigger in every aspect. Eastern NC is where I live in the winter.

Hannafords is all over Maine and Vermont, don’t think population density is the issue. Market Basket is kind of like a price rite type store, but I still think they’d do well in Hampden and Hampshire Counties. And possibly in the Greenfield area. There might even be a MB in Orange if my memory serves me correctly.

But I prefer more variety when I’m up here. During the winter I have Food Lion, Kroger, Harris Teeter, Piggly Wiggly( never will go here) Wegmans , Sams Club , ALDIs and a few more. I guess a guy can dream about grocery stores.

The Pike was only free in Western Mass for a few years. Then they reinstated the tolls. I used to pay a quarter from exit 4 to 3 everyday for work about 20 years ago.

I wouldn’t advise Pelican. They pay terrible and treat their employees like garbage. The other two have decent reputations though.

Your Average low might be 9, but you and I both know that’s during the dead of night. Stop being hyperbolic, Yes winter sucks but it isn’t the nightmare you are making it out to be.
