Find a high school or college with a machine shop program. I could do this for you in five minutes if you walked into my classroom.

By the way, you don't need a pigtail for the twisted wires - you can untwist them and put them both under the screw on the lightswitch (one on each side of the screw). Note this only works on this style of screw with the brass "clamp" that the wires go under.

This has gotta be between some additions or something, right? I can't wrap my head around what's been done here.

This is an excellent solution to this problem. Better than what I had in mind.

I would leave the plank is and make a trim strip that lays over top of the existing floor, just wide enough to cover the edge of the strip - maybe 1/2" wider than the gap.

Beautiful piece, I feel like you gotta get a pro in there and get it repaired in a manner fitting the overall quality.

If this were my door I would make a custom piece of fir that would fill the gap and blend in with the rest of the floor.

What you are doing is fine. You'll want to get that broken screw out of the bottom mounting tab on the original box.

If you can't find a supplier, somebody with a laser cutter could whip these up for you pretty quick.

In many places an opening that narrow would not even require sistering.

In my opinion you will have to smash. I'd really like to see a better pic of the pieces the cupboard door hinges are attached to though. Another response said that your cupboards were "too cheap" to be t&g but I disagree - these are decently build cabinets.

Modify the light fixture. If you enlarge those side mounting screw holes you will be able to push the light flush against the wall.
