This would absolutely be The Vela, which was produced as a podcast available for free..
It’s narrated by a woman named Robin Miles who brings a stunning array of accents and acting talent to a story of emotion, character development, and unexpected events. I know she’s done a lot of narration but I think this is the best.

There’s great pathos in seeing a ruined escape vessel, even if it’s a small adventure taken at potentially great risk. It made me think of Arthur Rimbaud’s Drunken Boat and how it’s journey may have ended.
