Take the train from North Station to Newburyport. About an hour. Stay at the Essex Street Inn or the Compass Rose Inn downtown. Plenty of great restaurants and shops throughout the downtown to explore. Boardwalk on the river. Short cab ride/Uber out to Plum Island and the beach.
