Urbanism is not about hating highway, that's a brain dead take.

But speaking of not dealing with budgets, it's obvious you don't have a clue since the current cost of our road infrastructure is draining the economy. We're not paying to maintain it because we can't afford it.

The convention was a fun time, participated in several protests and enjoyed watching even more of them going up and down broad street.

Had a good time laughing at the professional political class fail to understand how to use a SEPTA token, real masters of the universe right there.

It was supposed to just be a retro fit project, many buses that had fabric seats were completely replaced by plastic bucket seats and kept going. It's a mystery to me why most of the bus fleet was retrofitted with just a few lines left untouched for years.

The fact that we have so many people in the city who have to use SEPTA because they have no other choice, in addition to the people who use it as an alternative to driving for whatever reason they have, should make this a major campaign issue, yet it's not even given lip service most of the time.

It's so frustrating to see candidates constantly kneeling to the wants of the car lobby, despite the reality that it is mathematically impossible to accommodate 100% car usage in the city.

They were supposed to replace them with plastic seats after that bed bug incident, and to a large extent they have. However several routes notably the 17, 64, and Rt 15 trolley substitute buses, along with older buses near the end of their usable life, are still the gross fabric seats.

There are only two futures for what's left of this hull. Sink it off the cost to make a reef / tide break, or scrap it.

I doubt at this point after 50 years of neglect that the ship can even make it to the nearest scrap yard if it has to go out into the Atlantic to get there. So that leaves sinking it off southern NJ most likely in the Delaware Bay or as deep out as they can get before it starts sinking on its own.

That or they bring it into the navy yard to scrap it, it might fit in one of the old dry docks down there, but I question if the value of the scrap would even pay for the dock time.

Not going to work if you're giving the spaces away for free and not enforcing illegal parking with automatic towing and expensive fines.

Additionally who's properties are going to be eminent domained and demolished to make room for the parking garage? Should we start with yours?

Correct, the solution is less demand for cars overall.

The real solution is not just towing enforcement for illegal parking, which needs to happen anyway, but also setting the price to park to match the level of demand.

As you pointed out above there are not enough parking spots in the city, and building more parking isn't realistically possible, nor would it ever solve the problem.

This means that street parking follows a classic economics problem known as the tragedy of the commons. The solution to which is to apply a price metric that reflects the supply and demand levels. The solution to not enough free street parking to make parking cost more money until the price results in the demand level matching or slightly falling below the level of supply.

Or harsh enforcement. Equip every bus with traffic cameras and every car that blocks the bus or parks illegally gets a $1000 fine and 2 points on their license. Failure to pay it results in automatic loss of license and car getting impounded.

It's because District Council members are cowards who'd rather let a loud minority of obnoxious fucks dictate parking policy in the city, rather than handle it themselves.
