In a more serious note, I looked it up, and this is what CT says about horses:

>Connecticut law treats horses as personal property, requiring municipalities to assess them at 70% of their fair market value. But it exempts those used exclusively for farming from the tax and exempts the first $1,000 of assessed value for horses used for other purposes

So, if a horse is an actual working animal, it's exempt or discounted. If it isn't, it's taxed. Makes sense to me, my family owned ponies when I was growing up, and the only reason they were affordable was because we had property they could live on for free. My aunt does dressage, and it is not cheap, it's absolutely a luxury hobby.

Weird, I can only think of a few that have attendants.

Edit: I feel old, when I was a kid all gas stations.had attendants, you had a full serve and a self serve lane. They'd check your oil and wash your windows!

I think the counterargument to that is to look at all the states that have enacted early voting. It's quite a lot of them, and they mostly did it before it became an issue colored by people's opinions about Trump. There was very little voter fraud going on. There still is very little voter fraud going on. Sure, there's the occasional mistake like you said, but that's why we have audits and recounts when it's close.

There's also the other option of doing what Oregon does, which is universal mail in balloting. That works great for them, and I think is probably even less prone to fraud and mistakes. But that's not what we're voting for this year.

Turnover is really high down here - I've lived in the area since 2016 and I'm pretty sure we're the longest tenanted residents in my building. Heck, I've seen 3 leasing companies in my building since I moved here. So it's pretty hard to make connections with people.

I agree that it would be nice if there were more casual hangouts, there used to be more, but a bunch over by me (Le Pain Quotidien, the restaurant that predated Taco Daddy, Dinosaur, heck even Fairway) closed before and during covid. There's Third Place now, and that is a pretty cozy shop.

BLT keeps the rents high and it does seem to keep businesses from coming down here. I agree that it's pretty boring - we usually go elsewhere to go hiking or bicycling, which are our non nerdy hobbies.

I agree with many of this guy's points, but he comes off as a bit of a dick about it. I am definitely a YIMBY, but I also think that if an older building can be preserved and reused, it should be.
