The ones that get away probably never make the news. It's probably less viral and less news-worthy. While at the same time equally heart-warming and heartstring tugging.

There's only a handful of movie theaters in Saudi Arabia and it's only a tenth the size of America in population I grant you. But instead of people we can talk raw dollar figures and get Saudi Arabia closer to China in terms of capital. Factor that with Saudi Arabia's influence with rest of the region and you get a bit closer to a China comparison.

So does the Chinese government.
But the Chinese are eeking their way into Western culture with the knowledge that once they're fully in they can close the trap.

China is a really good example. They have Tiktok.
I really think if Saudi Arabia tried they could come up with something that competes with Wikipedia in the same way Tiktok is competing with Facebook. And the best way to spread influence, IMO, is to follow the China model. Just look at how much China makes Hollywood bend to it's will. Objectively, it's really something. Saudi Arabia can do something similar with all that money they have. And they're trying a bit here and there. That LIV golf thing seems to be a non-starter. But it shows they're trying a different tact. The thing is they have to start now. Before the oil runs out, before EVs take over, before temps reach 65°C in Riyadh.

If the US wanted to end Castro's regime it should have maintained diplomatic relations after a much shorter embargo. This decades long embargo is dumb and benefits no one. The US's greatest power is its soft power of economic and cultural influence. There was a McDonalds in Soviet Moscow for crying out loud. Sure, take a hard line on totalitarian regimes. But you can break down barriers by winning the hearts and minds of the people with McFlurrys and Selena Gomez concerts.

The Alamo was in another country and done by two militaries. Pearl Harbor was also a military action. 9/11 wasn't a shooting.

The byline isn't from a person. Which is usually suspect when other articles have a real person. Often this is done when the journalist wants some level of protection.

Most of the entertainment industry is run through who you know. Few people actually rise out of no where. Some do, to be fair. But it's a fairly good ol'boy, nepotistic, favor trading crowd. Even the nice ones.

Reply to comment by TimeTravellerSmith in Colorado will launch its new Missing Indigenous Person Alert program on Friday by AudibleNod
For AMBER and Clear alerts there's the potential that a kidnapping happened. For Silver, CAMO and Endangered Missing Person, it's someone who may be in distress from PTSD, mental trauma or some manner of diminished capacity (for lack of a better term). It's a way to utilize existing reporting streams and best use resources after its concluded that an alert should be given. The goal is to get people back, which is good. But since there's a limitation on reporting things to the press and such a thing as AMBER Alert fatigue. So you don't want to saturate the public with alerts and making criteria for a threshold is needed to filter some cases out.

Texas already has a host of alerts in addition to the well known AMBER Alert.
There's AMBER, Silver, Blue, Endangered Missing Person, Clear and Camo. I don't think a Camo alert has been issued yet. So, seeing Colorado try out MIPA seems like a good sign.

Askreddit often has "what should be taught in high school" questions.
I think a practical/hands-on demonstration of a fire extinguisher should be taught and used. They're in most public places, but few people have actually ever used them. It's just as important to show what kind of fires they work on and how long they last so you know when to try to put out a fire and also when to just run.
