Fun details: the Merritt was built to relieve congestion on Route 1. The expressway that became I-95 was built to relieve congestion on the Merritt.
Route 1 remains quite congested.

Reply to Gas heat not working in spare room by [deleted]
If you have a gas boiler you can call a plumber or CNG; I've done both in the past. If you can wait to do it during the week, do that as weekend rates tend to be higher. FYI, CNG has service plans which will cover them coming out to fix your equipment. I learned this after my boiler stopped working last Xmas and got to pay premium rates for repairs.

I'd look at New Haven or points west along the rail line for your husband's commuting needs. Sure, he could drive in, but napping on the train is a fine way to pass the time as is laughing at people in traffic on 95.

There should an exclusion area around coastlines that automatically disqualifies buildings for disaster aid.

Have your battery powered things charged up, have some flashlights, candles, food you don't need cooking. If you have extra space in your freezer, freeze some water to help keep things cold should the power go out. Some means of amusing yourself without power is good too; puzzles, games, books...

Reply to Safest Place to Live in Hartford by Turbulent-Ad-491
I live in West Hartford, used to live in Downtown Hartford. I definitely feel less safe going about my life here. If you can find a spot in the downtown, I'd go there.
Edit: judging by the downvotes, people aren’t good at estimating safety. You’re far more likely to die commuting than you are from a random stranger.
