My father’s DT250, and my T-90 and 1990 are tanks. Also have a colleague whose 990 is a tank, used daily for professional work.

BeyerDynamic ain’t fixing what ain’t broken. Look what happened to Sennheiser & AKG now ? They got bought out and are now a hollow shell of their former greatness.

BeyerDynamic is still standing on their own two feet, making the most durable studio headphones in history, that have dependable, sensibly bright for studio work, extremely accurate and representative frequency responses across their entire professional range.

HD650 is also a very good headphone. But I feel the FR of the HD600 is more universal, and more timeless across all genres.

HD650 is the FR for people who prefer more bass, and sensitive to 1k-3k, slight changes, but to me, for reference purposes across all genres, the HD600 is the superior FR, especially the rising slope from 1-3k

2013-2017 was peak open back headphone. Many of the best big engineering leaders folded or got bought out.

Sennheiser and AKG are husks filled with styrofoam now. The HD800s and AKG K812 were the final peak offerings from both of them.

Most of the newer high end stuff is very hobbyist-designed/not as impressive. Focal shows tremendous promise though.

Yes; the driver’s initial output, coupled with the housing design, acoustic fabrics/materials, and swappable parts like different earpads … all contribute to the FR of any headphone. Some better manufacturers include multiple earpad variations in the box, to adapt the FR depending on each user’s desired sound signature…

I never owned a pair, but I didn’t get to Demo them until around 2015, at which point, I had already owned an AKG K701, an AKG/MassDrop K7XX triple black first edition, and an Austrian-made, early-run AKG K812 Pro.

They’re pretty impressive, but I had already been using the K812 Pro for a while, and the K1000 is not as impressive as the K812Pro.
