Southwest’s sale fares to ATL were like $160 round trip (last checked 2019) so I set aside $350, got tickets during the sale, flew down at 6am on a Saturday, got to the Georgia Aquarium as soon as it opened, had lunch, went to a brewery, and flew home the same day on a 5:30 or 6:30pm flight. Best day trip I’ve ever taken, to me it was 100pct worth saving for; the aquarium is world class

And keep an eye out because Amtrak regularly has 2-for-1 sales or other discounts

Asterisk for the unaware: the Penn line runs on weekends but the Brunswick line doesn’t, so this trip couldn’t be done in reverse unless planning to use Amtrak instead (can’t bike to HF on Friday and then plan to Marc back)
