I can’t choose just one, but I think atm it would have to be The Velvet Rope by Janet Jackson. This album has so many layers that I won’t be able to mention not nearly everything there is with this album. But It was her darkest and most experimental album coming off during one of the worst periods of her life when she was struggling mentally. Focusing on themes of depression, Isolation, Race, Abusive Relationships, Lost friends, and is a very Self-reflective album and very aggressive. This album was also seen as a precursor to Alternative R&B by combining genres such as R&B, Funk, Trip Hop, Alternative Hip-Hop, House, Disco, Jazz, Folk, Hard Rock, and Electronic music among others.
