It sounds like the drivers or the companies they work for need to be smart enough to switch between the apps. Or plan their route out instead of just relying on GPS in the moment.

I don't understand why you think Google owes that to truck drivers, though. The drivers and their companies don't pay for it and Google doesn't market Maps as a truck GPS app. Google doesn't need any excuses because they're not saying they provide Maps as a service to truck drivers. I think if I was arguing from your perspective, the "excuse" is that Maps is for cars and not commercial trucks.

I have no trouble reading entire multi-line signs as a commuter. If they can't read a couple dozen words fast enough, that's their and/or their company's fault for being/hiring such a slow reader when they absolutely need to read the signs. They're getting paid to pay attention to that stuff.

Google Maps isn't beholden to truck drivers. They're not paying for a truck feature with additional info. These drivers have the option to use the right tools, look up the rules of the major roads they're going to drive on, etc. Especially if they're not familiar with them. It's part of the job.

I think we're actually agreeing on most of this. I just don't think it makes sense to say "this is Google Maps' fault" when Google doesn't market Maps a tool for 100% compliance with road restrictions for commercial trucks. The drivers are making bad decisions in a professional capacity. It's their fault, not the free app designed for people with regular cars.

The blame should be on the people getting paid to drive who don't pay attention to the posted signs and don't know the rules of the major roads they plan to drive on. It's their fault if they're relying on a smartphone app to share perfect instructions for their truck, if that app isn't designed to address limitations for trucks.

A professional driver should be paying extra close attention to road signs in an area they're not familiar with.

I lived near East Lansing, they mostly have shit pizza and shit grinders (and shit bagels, shit breakfast sandwiches, a surprisingly low number of diners, etc.).

I remember finding a place near the MSU campus that had "Greek pizza" and it turned out to be awful. Some of the worst pizza I've ever eaten from a pizza place.

Without realizing ahead of time because the menu wasn't descriptive, I ordered a chicken parm grinder made with grilled chicken. It's like they were trying to make bad food.

It was a very bland, gray, rusted out, dull, Midwestern-in-the-worst-way kind of place overall. It makes me thankful CT and New England were overall smart and capable enough to do better in a post-industrial economy.

There was a great old-school fast food burger place and one great diner-type breakfast place in Lansing, to be fair.

Well I've heard songs from both of those bands, and seen what both of those bands look like. As much as I don't listen to them regularly, I know they're not just whiny nu metal shitheads making awful music for suburban middle schoolers. I don't personally like those bands, but it's easy to see how they're both a lot better than Linkin Park.

Now we can get back to how you came in hot defending Linkin Park and comparing them to much better bands despite saying you're not a big fan. What's all that about?

Not really, Linkin Park is one of the worst rap-rock nu metal bands. I was a little piece of shit in middle school, I liked Korn and Limp Bizkit and a lot of other pure trash. Just cultureless, impotently angry music with terrible aesthetics and overall vibe.

But I remember thinking Linkin Park was too dumb to like, even then. The name was extra dumb, the singer was especially whiny, the sound was just like every other shit band in the same genre.

Even the handful of kids I knew in college who still liked them were always the ones who dressed the worst and hadn't fully gotten over that dumb teenage angst yet. Like they were good people at their hearts, but it kind of says something that they were all similar in those ways.
