There’s a good spot in Oak Grove Cemetery. However, it’s been warm and 2 days of cold weather isn’t enough to make any pond skating safe around here.

You can check out Frog Pond on the Common though.

Yes, this is the best starting point. It looks like the Family Resource Center has been rebranded the Student Registration Center. They are a great source of information and will point you in the right direction. Though well meaning, many Cambridge parents do not fully understand the system or recent changes to school placement. Take all social media advice with a grain of salt.

How about a rally to support police doing an extremely difficult job in our city? I’ve yet to see anything they did wrong in this case. What happened is tragic, but they were being pressed by a man with a bloody machete. Not the outcome anyone wanted for sure.

So you’re new to downtown Cambridge/Boston then? The flyovers are much louder if you’re at close range to the “target”. Much more so than if you’re several miles away.

If you were out, how did you know your pets were mortified? Did they text you or tell you about it when you got home? My dogs don’t love the flyovers, but they’re so brief it’s not a big deal. A thunderstorm is much more traumatic for the dog who is sensitive to such things.

What recent news?

When you say ‘the area’, are we talking in Cambridge or elsewhere in eastern MA? Loud flyovers happen severs times a year here (in Cambridge/Boston), and have as long as I can remember.

How long have you lived in Cambridge? This happens several times every year (Red Sox opening day, Boston Marathon, various special events). Part of city life.

Where do you think jet fighters would be attacking from? A Chinese aircraft carrier that approached the coast undetected? Canada? Think about it. I do see how it could be startling if you are new to the area.

Central Square as a whole is much ‘nicer’ than it was in the past, if perhaps lacking a bit of character. However, the area immediately surrounding Carl Barron plaza has gone downhill over the past several years and during Covid. The police put a substation there for optics, but there is not really a regular, active police presence in this area.

Starbucks closed as a direct result of crime in the area. Drug use is rampant in Carl Barron plaza in the surrounding area. An area that was previously safe for our children to walk through alone no longer is. Counselor McGovern and others have a lot to answer for as the decline of this area began when the needle exchange opened on Green street.

Darwin’s closed because the owner decided to retire. That part of the square is pretty gentrified, so crime had nothing to do with that.

Overall, Central is still a great neighborhood IMO.

This is a fantastic theater. Particularly the large auditorium is the best movie experience in Boston IMO. Great audio and video, truly comfortable ergonomic seats (none of this heated recliner crap).

Part of the magic was in the way Arclight managed it (limited commercials only before showtime, shows starting on time, no in seat service). Some of this will certainly go away with AMC, but it will be great just to have this theater back online.

Never used to be enforced at all unless someone complained. However, they have stepped up all parking enforcement (Mid Cambridge and Riverside) with the reduction in parking capacity due to bike lanes, etc. You should be OK if you move it, but may well be ticketed if not.

Baldwin is the most challenging school to get a placement without proximity. Take a close look at the numbers. It may not be worth burning a lottery spot on.

I was underwhelmed by G&P when we toured it, but many regard it as the best elementary school in the city. I thought Peabody was great, but it was a bit far and the hours didn’t work so l well for our family. If it was walkable for us, it would have been a no brainer.

Having 2 years of kindergarten may be the best thing about CPS.
