The original Raphael action figure was the first toy I ever bought with my own money. I was in second grade and a cool third grader had all four on the playground. I asked how much and he told me “$3.99”.
I saved my money for weeks and when I had $3.99 I asked my mom if she could drive me to K-Mart. I grabbed Raph and we headed to the checkout.
The cashier rang him up, and announced “$4.23” after tax. All I had was $3.99. I started to cry. Thankfully my mom was nice enough to cover my shortage, however it took a few minutes for me to hear as I was so upset.

I might be completely misremembering, but I feel like a version of it is in one of the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series(?). Admittedly it’s been like 25+ years since I read them.

$5k/month is not much at all, especially 20/30/40 years from now with inflation when you have to retire. I’d probably continue my FT job and just invest that $5k every month hoping for a nice retirement.
