I pay $25 a filter for the filters in my house, because I have a dog. The 1900s aren't cheap.

people should ALWAYS get renters insurance. Saved my butt once.
But they should get it from the same company that does their car insurance.
It's cheap insurance

with pets people should really change filter once a month. But people are horrible about it. I have come across some amazingly bad filters. I used to think the filter change fee was nuts, but the repairs I've seen are starting to justify it.
And gas and labor cost money. Now in apt buildings much less justification

$100 rent raise sounds fair, but the rest of those fees are kind of crazy high, not normal to my mind. I do get the filter fee (no one changes them!) and the pet fee, but the application fees are nuts.
Look around to see what else is out there. This seems high

Talk to the landlord and tell them it doesn't ask long and ask if you can get a bigger one. No certainty but might work

no that's a money loser these days, not happening. It's the reverse, multi unit buildings going back to single families.
Also illegal under zoning, but that's not really what's stopping it

I agree with you. In fact, I could add a few horrible property managers to the list. Though RRHA and southwood really do seem to be the worst from the data.
But an article should involve nuance. And the news seems to be dropping it. Your last sentence is far more appealing, but I still thinnk the news should drive the story, not the story drive the news.

its a normal cycle, we will have another one in the meantime too.
But it's still going to happen of course. Data is up and to the right.

in fairness, moving is an utter pain in the ass, but has never cost me that much to do myself.
Aside from mental anguish and an ill spent weekend.
Real expense if one pays though
