My only advice for someone moving here is to check your current electric usage against what eversource is charging right now. It’s a huge shock to the system to see your first $700 electric bill after moving here.

Lightbulbs are not doubling an electric bill. It’s most likely heat and large appliances coupled with unregulated utilities. Dealing with these in an apartment is especially difficult when you can’t change out a dishwasher or lower the temp of a water heater.

“buy more blankets” would be better advice

Switching is good but know that it isn’t instant. It can take two full billing cycles to change suppliers.
